It's an excellent case. It fits the widescreen Nuvi snugly, but it's easy to get the GPS out of the case when I want to.

The case is lined with something resembling velvet and includes a wrist strap. The flap is held closed with Velcro and there are two belt loops on the back, as well as a spring clip for your cars visor.

The leather is good quality and sturdy. I'm sure I could drop my GPS and it wouldn't be harmed.

There is also a precut plastic screen protector that's held in place by static. That item is included by MiniSuit at no charge and it's a good idea to protect the touchscreen display on the GPS.

In every possible way this is a great case and a teriffic bargain for the price. You won't find anything as good anywhere near the price.

Whistler Xtr-145 Easy To Read Display Radar Detector Review

CONS: unless on sale, better value can be found elsewhere in the Whistler lineup

This XTR-145 is a no-frills, good quality detector.As someone who goes only 5-10 MPH at most over the speed limit, I wanted something that would give me a heads-up about speed traps -- and thus far, this detector has met my expectations.

Over the Labor Day weekend, it snuffed out a couple of local cops hiding out.In both cases, I got a short one or two bar warning in the K/Ka band.The first instance was over the crest of a small hill in a residential section (virtually no false alarms here), and the advance warning was no more than a a few hundred feet.I suspect the hill decreased the range significantly; fortunately, my speed up the hill was well below the limit, so no problem there.The second case occurred on a busier local thoroughfare, flanked by stores on both sides.There were scattered false alarms from the automatic doors (switching to City II mode, which doesn't detect X-band -- more on that later -- helps cut these false alarms), but a quick burst of the K/Ka alert gave me a 1/2 mile warning about a cop car tucked away in a speed trap.That was enough time for me to slow down to the limit.

I just had two highway alerts tonight -- in the first case, it warned me 1/2 mile in advance of a cop driving in the opposite lanes while tailing and pulling over a car.The warning illustrated the XTR-145's 360-degree detection, i.e. not necessarily your course of traffic.The second case was also a 1/2 mile in advance, this time a cop who had already pulled over a car to the shoulder in my course of traffic.

As noted earlier, the City modes can cut down detection of X band, but this is problematic in states like NJ and OH, where cops still use X band radar (sticking to Highway mode is likely the best bet there).And this unit, like most of its peers across the price range, will detect laser, but this feature comes with a catch: any laser warning likely indicates your car has just been tagged, so hope for their laser gun to malfunction as you hit the brakes.This gaping hole in laser "detection" is why radar detectors in general are not a free pass for speeding.

But the XTR-145 does provide a little more cushion and advance warning about many imminent speed traps.Higher priced detectors seem to have far better sensitivity and may be more useful for the leadfooted folks.But for those who speed 5-10 MPH over the limit and like useful gadgets, this fits the bill.

FYI, I found the Handstands Jelly Sticky Pad to be perfectly sized and capable of holding it on the dashboard.This allows you to avoid using the more obvious suction cup mount.And the power cord for this unit is a thin, straight cable.At first, I thought this would be a disadvantage (more expensive units use a coiled cord), but I've found the thinness of the cable to be less obstructive to the center console controls.

If you shop around, the XTR-145 can be an excellent value.I found it for $25 at another electronics/computer site (with vowels removed, N-w-gg).But at the current price of around $40, definitely get the XTR-265, which is around $10 more.It seems to have the same detection circuitry, but with a much better feature set.

3 City Modes/Highway Mode
Highway mode provides full audio and visual warning of laser/radar systems while maintaining full sensitivity, and is the default setting of Whistler laser/radar detectors. City mode helps reduce the annoyance of automatic door openers and burglar alarm alerts by providing an initial alert (same distance as Highway Mode) then remaining quiet unless the signal strength becomes very strong. When the signal increases the unit will alert briefly to notify you of the change in signal strength.
Quiet/Auto Quiet Modes
Pressing QUIET before a signal is detected engages Auto Quiet Mode, which automatically reduces the audio level after the initial warning to a low audio level setting. Pressing QUIET during a radar/laser encounter silences audio alerts, while allowing visual alerts to keep you informed.
Vehicle Battery Saver Mode
The Vehicle Battery Saver Mode automatically shuts off your detector within 3 hours if you forget to turn it off. The timer is reset if the detector is turned off, unplugged or any button is pressed before the 6 hours have expired. The detector will alert you with an audible and visual warning before it shuts off.
Alert Priority
When two or more signals are received at the same time, the alert priority is: Laser, VG-2, Speed Radar, Safety Radar.
Example: If X band is alerting, then suddenly a VG-2 signal is detected, the VG-2 warning will override the X band alert.
Twin Alert Periscopes
Whistler's Low Profile Alert Periscopes provide an added attention getting visual alert. The two extra LEDs flash on and off when the unit alarms to provide a unique visual alert.

True Four Ohms

Kenwood Excelon DNX6960 6.1" In-Dash Double-DIN Navigation DVD Receiver Review

(More customer reviews)After installing this head unit in my 2008 Ford F150 I got very excited.This really is a classy head unit in most respects.I've got my phone paired with the Bluetooth, the navigation seems very nice, Sirius radio sounds very good, even my steering wheel controls seem to work decently with the PAC SWIJACK, but...I used the Kennwood KCA-IP301V adapter to control my 120 GB iPod Classic.Immediately I noticed that it takes anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds (more often closer to 10) to switch forward or backward between songs, or to choose the songs from the list menu.Basically whenever you switch songs the unit freezes for the 10 seconds or whatever, and then resumes.Album artwork loads just as slowly too, which I really wouldn't mind being quicker, but would sacrifice in a heartbeat if it meant I could navigate between songs quicker.Also, when trying to navigate through my music using the A-Z menu, only about half of the letters actually brings up music that starts with that letter (M gets you O, P gets you R, but L might actually get you L, etc.)In essence, it's nearly impossible to listen to your music without going crazy.It can literally take you up to a full minute to try and skip ahead 6 songs!!!Try to press track advance twice (which you WILL unconsciously do when the unit doesn't respond after the first press} and then it freezes up for the 10 seconds, then skips ahead twice - which is fine if that's what you want, but often I only wanted one song skipped, so you have to press the back button, which starts the 10 second clock all over again!I called Kenwood tech support and was told that this particular new line of head units (2010 I assume) does indeed process iPod functions slower that past year's models.I was not able to confirm that a software fix might be coming later on, only that the current slow operation is "normal" for this particular lineup.Maybe a software update is coming, maybe not.Who knows?

In closing, if you intend to use your iPod like I do (my CDs never even leave the house any more), then this head unit isn't even worth the trivial price you'd pay to have it shipped to you.If you don't use iPod, then I can't imagine you being unhappy with it.

I would give this product less than one star, but I think if you leave the iPod issues out of the picture, it's a GREAT player.But if you're like me and your entire music collection is on your iPod, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!Shame on you, Kenwood.

UPDATE - I purchased a brand new 64GB iPod Touch and it had the same issues with this head unit as my older iPod Classic.I have returned the unit.An awful first experience owing a Kenwood product.

System E's+ Crossover System

(More customer reviews)I have used CB'S for over twenty years, This one is the best I have used in that time. I might add that for me it is the "fanciest" one I have ever bought. I do find the weather channel to be useful as I commute across the country. The ergonomic mike is a pleasure to use, I expect to see copycats on the market soon. You could spend a lot more for a CB and not get any better performance.

The dealership told me the remotes might not work for whatever reason but they did, wonderfully I might add, plus they look and feel great. It cost me $35.00 to have the dealership program them.

The chargers are weatherproof, and you can permanently mount them in the engine compartment with the provided ring terminals, or just use the alligator clips.

The charger has a battery status indicator (low / full), and settings for Motorcycle, Car, or Gel battery. The charger cycles from trickle current, to pulses, and shuts off when the battery is full. There is no better charger for winter storage battery tending, bringing nearly dead batteries back to life, or just recharging boat batteries slowly overnight.

Finally, I should mention that the current version of the 3300 has some improvements over the already excellent older version (I now have one of each). The latest version includes:
- Heavier gauge wiring
- Much heavier and more durable alligator clips
- A nice zip-up storage case

(More customer reviews)Plugged my 24" iMac's power plug into the TrippLite power supply. Connected the power supply to the iMac using the included USB cable. The iMac recognized the power supply and I could use its built-in OS X software to configure how long the Mac should run off battery backup before shutting down. No other software to install. Also able to plugin my 500 GB G-Drive (external Time Machine drive) without exceeding the max power rating, although I bet it is close. Every once in a while I get a dialog box pop up saying that I was running off battery. Usually see this when I get home from work and wonder what would have happened without the battery backup. So far outages have not been long enough to test shutdown process. The manual says not to pull the plug out of the wall to test it. There is a test button instead. Someday I'll figure out which circuit breaker controls this outlet and shut it off to see what happens. I'm very happy with the power supply and glad that I bought it.

(More customer reviews)I thought about writing a review for some time now. I wanted to make sure I was out of the honeymoon phase before I wrote about this device.I have had it for over a couple of weeks now and feel like it's time.

I purchased the Stiletto 2 as a late Christmas present to myself.I had signed up originally for the 3-day trial and loved the radio selections.I live Montana and our radio stations are pretty decent, but we have a lot of commercials.So, being able to listen to music without commercials is fantastic.

I wasn't sure what device to purchase, so I started reading.I had read a number of reviews (particularly the poor ones) about the Stiletto 2, but I liked the portability aspect, so I purchased it.

I now understand their complaints.They want better reception from the device itself, better/more comfortable headphones, etc.I agree the reception on the device isn't the best when indoors, but I purchased the home kit and that significantly improved reception.

When I am away from my home dock, I connect through Internet radio and it works just fine.

I also bought the car kit, but haven't had a chance to install it yet.I was able to get reception in my car without it though, so I imagine the car kit will only improve upon that.

The user interface is quite easy to navigate and the controls on the device are fairly intuitive. I like to test devices without reading the manual first to see how easy it is to figure out and the Stiletto 2 was pretty straightforward.I had to refer to the manual to understand the recording options, but otherwise, it was simple.

The recording option is fantastic.I set up a number of recurring sessions in the middle night.In the morning, I can then listen to them when I am working out, running errands, etc.I think this is probably one of the best features of the device.I have 15+ hours of recorded content and have used only 35% of the internal memory.Replay is fantastic.You can skip through songs just like your MP3 player and for me, that's a great option.

The size of the device is just right.It fits in my pocket, but it's not so small that I am afraid it's going to get broken or lost.

The battery life has been more than adequate.It's rated at like 4+ hours for Satellite or Internet radio and 20+ for recorded or library selections.I can attest that I have listened to it for many hours without running out of power.I wouldn't mind having a spare battery, but it's probably overkill.

As for the additional SD card slot.It's too bad it's under the battery.When you install an SD card, it's like you are putting in RAM in your laptop.This is not simple or intuitive for a lot of people (thinking of my mom here).I am sure there was an architectural reason, but it's too bad it's not just inserted on the side like a number of cell phones.

I have owned a number of musical devices in my life, 5+ iPods, a Zune, Rio, CD players, Walkmans, etc, but I can say this device has really reminded me of how music can be such a wonderful part of your life.I listen to my radio non-stop, and I wouldn't have it any other way now.

(More customer reviews)This had all the features we were looking for -- Bluetooth connectivity without a separate microphone to install, detachable faceplate, DVD support, SD support, USB and external audio input on the faceplate. I also appreciate the dial volume knob, and that many of the controls have hard buttons as well as touchscreen equivalents.

The sound is much better than our factory-installed stereo (in a Kia Sedona) -- richer sound, deeper bass, but not distracting or distorting (all with the factory-installed speakers). The tuner has slightly more static than our old stereo off the same antenna, but the difference isn't great.

The touchscreen excels on the tuner setting -- a nice display that shows time, radio station, and your current preset settings (each preset shows the frequency associated with it). While it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that some high-end stereos have (it doesn't detect and display the station call letters), it does fine.

Where things break down a little is when you put in an MP3 source (CD/DVD or SD card -- I haven't tried USB yet but I assume it's the same). The screen is split into three sections. One tiny line across the top shows what's currently playing, on a slowly scrolling display. This display is way too small to be particularly useful -- you won't be glancing at the dash to see the name of the current song when you're playing MP3s. The left half of the screen shows the directory listing, and the right half shows the filenames for the current directory. The MP3 metadata only displays for what's playing, not for the file listings. Because the screen is broken up left-and-right, the width of each section is less than half the total width of the display -- which means if your MP3 files are named something like "01-First Song on the CD.MP3", then you'll probably see something like this in the directory listing: "01-01-F" -- the first 1 is the system telling you it's the first song on the list, and then you get about 4-6 characters of the filename itself. That makes finding the right song on a directory listing pretty difficult. While you play an MP3 source, you see this menu display -- and that's it. Blech. Sounds great, looks awful. They'd have been better off showing fewer directories and files on the screen at once, and letting them take the full width to show more of the names. Oh well, it works.

The bluetooth connection works well for handsfree phone calls, and the audio on it is surprisingly good for a condenser mike built into a faceplate -- not awesome, but for talking while driving it's pretty great. Road noise isn't bad, and the driver is quite understandable. I didn't hear any echo when I talked to my wife, and my voice was coming out the car speakers and hers was coming through the mike on the faceplate.

I haven't watched any video on the screen, as I didn't want to tear everything apart to figure out how to hook it up to the parking brake. This does point out one other annoying feature if you don't hook up the park brake (or use it with the park brake disengaged) -- changing to anything other than tuner pops up an ugly blue screen with a message warning about watching video while you drive, which stays up for several seconds. Even if you put in an audio CD, you'll see the warning before you get to a menu screen. It's obnoxious, but it's not a big deal. If you do put in a DVD, you can still listen to it even though the video won't show if you haven't hooked it up to the park brake or if you have and the brake isn't set -- if you have a music video DVD, this might be useful, though the sound is only stereo and not 5.1 Dolby or DTS or anything fancy.

The detachable faceplate comes with a little fabric pouch with a drawstring -- don't expect it to offer much protection beyond avoiding minor scratches.

All in all, pretty solid. Good sound and an awesome set of features makes the flaws sufferable, and it looks great in the dash (maybe I'll add pictures later -- comment if you want some). I'd consider buying another, if my other van's dash had a double-DIN slot (at 1.5-DIN, this just isn't an option).
