Stanley 63-048 48 Cordless Screwdriver Review

Stanley 63-048 48 Cordless Screwdriver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For years, I've used a B&D electric screwdriver. They last about 18-mos, then will not hold a charge. The B&D torque is also puny compared to this Stanley product. This Stanley screwdriver holds a charge for really tough jobs too (I've removed truss and deck screws w/it, and it just keeps going!) The battery charge longevity, of course is dependent on the job being accomplished, BUT it lasts at least 3x as long as a B&D, It's adjustable handle and Fwd/Rev rocker button are really positive features.
All Carpenters and handy-guys and gals need one of these in the tool apron.

Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro Hammock Review

Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro Hammock
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was dead set on getting an ENO hammock, until I read the great raving reviews of the lesser named brands here from Amazon.

I also found that once you start outfitting an ENO hammock with things like bug nets they get very pricey. So I found the Skeeter Beeter.

It was a little bit of a stab having not read any reviews on it, but the price was right and the quality seemed to be there.

The hammock is very comfortable, and made of really nice materials (parachute material for the hammock, and almost like a silk for the bug-net...no cheap-o stuff here).

My only complaints are (and I'm not really sure they're complaints, just things I wish I kn ew before buying), the size of this thing is pretty big for 1 person.400# capacity doesn't give enough of a description, but I'm 6'1" at 185lbs and I get swallowed by this thing.I wish it was about 10% less wide.

The other thing was the bug-net...cool setup, but it does not come off...not possible to remove. There's a zipper which runs about 90% the length of 1 side, but cannot be peeled back and removed. Not a complaint per se, but I wish I knew these things before-hand

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well I got this CVT 12" 4-ohm sub in a sealed box for my Acura, and boy was I surprised to see the footprint.I was 1/4 of the size of my previous single 12" MTX Thunder setup.I needed some trunk space back due to my lifestyle change, but I did not expect this much space back.Anyway as for the sound initially I did not like it for the first few weeks cause it was just not at all as loud or clear as my MTX setup. Then after a quick retuning of my 350 watt RMS amp, I set the low pass to 45hz, and upped the gain a bit more, but to my surprise this time around it did not distort like it did in the previous tune, so now it was thumping harder and tighter then my MTX, hitting all the right notes. Later I read that you have to break these CVT subs in for a few weeks before you can get your sound. I listen to everything from old school classic rock, metal, Raga Metal, Death Metal, Drum n Bass, Ambient, Trance, Tip Hop, Hip hop, House, and even some classical. This sub has yet to disappoint, but keep in mind my setup works for me because it was meant to fill the low end sound that was missing from my stock Bose system. This is not a Kicker L7 so please don't expect to enter any SPL competition with this setup. So overall I love my new setup and not to mention my new trunk space.

Lisle 24610 Spill-Free Funnel Review

Lisle 24610 Spill-Free Funnel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this because I recently had my radiator replaced by a small business mechanic my father knew. I get the car back, and a week later, my temperature gauge kept creeping up. I searched online to diagnose the problem myself, and came to the conclusion that there was air trapped in the cooling system. I tried burping it before without this product, and coolant just spilled all over my driveway, and there was still air trapped. After two failed attempts, I found this product and decided to give it a shot. After about 20 minutes of my car running at idle, SO MUCH AIR STARTED TO COME OUT. It was ridiculous. After two times doing it with this funnel (the first time I forgot to keep the heater on full blast) my cars temperature gauge stays right underneath the middle. I couldn't be happier. If you like to do things yourself, because idiots you pay can't do it right the first time, this should be a tool in your arsenal.

Navigon 2100 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator Review

Navigon 2100 3.5 inch Portable GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently returned a new Magellan Maestro 3140 GPS unit that did not have traffic data as I decided that I needed the traffic feature. I was going to buy another Magellan product but on a whim I went to Staples early on Black Friday and I managed to buy a Navigon 2100T for $99. For a device with text to speech and lifetime traffic this is a great price.

I have been testing this Navigon device for the past few days to see if I want to keep it or if I will get rid of it and get the Magellan I was intending to buy. I have reduced my experiences into the following Pros and Cons. This is of course entirely subjective.

Pros

- Price - I just can't beat $99 for text to speech and lifetime traffic!
- Reality View provides 3D images of complex interchanges - congratulations on Navigon innovating in this way - it is a really great feature.
- Audio volume is plenty loud - I can hear it very clearly
- Audio instructions are good and accurate. It states the street name and turn in advance and then also says "now turn right" at the correct moment.
UPDATE: As is common on text to speech devices, some of the streets are mis-pronounced, but the timing and accuracy of the speech instructions are very good. I rely on them with confidence.
- Screen is very bright and readable in daylight
- Quick lock on satellites
- Quick recalculation if you deviate from the calculated route.
- Plastic housing is clean and sophisticated looking
- No MP3 player, slideshow viewer, toaster etc. I hate how GPS devices are trying to be iPods these days. Let's just get the GPS part right. Congrats to Navigon on leaving all the other crud off of this device.

Cons

- Crazy routing sometimes.
I have been driving some local journeys and comparing with the routes my Magellan previously offered. This 2100 comes up with some silly ways to get places. For example instead of driving ahead on a major road and then turning right onto another major road, this unit tried to have me cut through a bunch of slower local streets as some kind of shortcut. This would actually take longer (due to stop signs and lower speed limit). The Magellan never proposed this silly route. I know the area and so disregarded the poor Navigon routing. But my concern is that in a foreign environment I will have to trust the device and it might waste my time. I have tried changing the Route Profile settings (Fast versus Optimum) but don't see how they impact the result. I've never had to do this previously on a GPS unit.
UPDATE: It seems to me that some of the sillier routes might be for local/very short journeys. I have been using this device for 30+ mile trips around Los Angeles and the routes have generally been good.

- POI searching is much more frustrating than on my previous Magellan. On my previous device I could type in "Macys" and it would find every Macys for miles and miles around. If I want to find a Macy's on the Navigon but there is not one "nearby" then I need to scroll through a long list of every POI in the category (while repeatedly increasing the definition of "nearby - enlarge the radius...). There is an alternative search method: the unit expects me to know the city the nearest Macy's is in?! This is ridiculous. Enough already! Just let me type Macys and show me all of the results no matter how far away they are (or within a distance defined in Preferences). I could write a whole essay on this but basically the POI access needs an overhaul ASAP. I am sick of seeing "No POIS nearby found" (yes that is the message).
UPDATE: After a few weeks of use, my frustration with POI management has not subsided. (My latest fave: I must scroll past the POI categories of car dealers and auto mechanics to get to the more commonly used Shopping Centers category). I keep reminding myself that this is a value-priced GPS and I have pretty much given up on expecting good POI functionality. This device is mostly about point to point navigation where you know your destination address. I have been using Google Maps on my Blackbery to find POIs and then entering the address manually into the Navigon.

- USB/power connection on the bottom of the device. This annoys me to no end. This might not sound like a big deal but I don't want my GPS unit blocking the view out of the windscreen and so I usually have the suction cup in a position on the windscreen so the GPS unit sits on or just above the top surface of the dashboard. When I have the 2100 mounted in the windshield mount the device must sit more than an inch higher above the dashboard if the USB/power cable is plugged in because the plug is on the bottom of the device. Instead of plugging the power cable in on the left or right side (as is common on other GPS devices) you must mount the device over an inch higher just to get the power cable in to the hole under the screen. The only way to mount it lower is to run it off the battery (no power cable). Good luck getting the hours of battery life they claim. If you are in a big truck with a huge windscreen then you won't care. If you are in a sedan (or especially a small sports car) then this is a significant design flaw. Which genius made this decision?
UPDATE: I have uploaded an image to illustrate this problem. Have a look at the product pics at the top of the product info page.
UPDATE 2: I have uploaded a second image which shos how you can reduce the problem by buying a small adapter (thanks Peein Elmo for the tip).

- Keyboard "buttons" in the interface are very small. Hope you don't have big fingers

- Icons on the screen (battery etc) and the speed data font are too small. I can read it OK but do not give this unit as a gift to someone with less than perfect vision. At the time of writing this review there are no 2100 screen shots in the Amazon product info see what I mean. (The screen shot showing Reality View is from a 7100 - clever huh?) UPDATE: There are now some 2100 product images including the screen. Look at the size of the font showing the speed (on the right side of the screen) and compare that with screen shots of some Garmin, TomTom and Magellan devices.

- Not enough color on the maps. I understand this unit is "understated" in its design - and some other GPS devices go over the top with saturated color but this is just a little too "gray" for me. UPDATE: The screen shots shown in the product info at Amazon cleverly depict an area with official parks and forests - so you can see green areas on the screen. Unless you are driving through parks all day you will see gray everywhere on your device.
UPDATE 2: I have realized the reason this device seems so "gray" is because many of the user interface elements (buttons, scroll bars, windows etc) use shades of gray and then the map itself also uses gray as the default land color. I was driving by the beach the other day and the unit showed the ocean as bright blue. It looked great. Maybe I should live in a park near the beach...

Other comments:I have activated the traffic but have not used it yet so cannot comment.
UPDATE: The traffic feature has so far not proven very useful for me. I get stuck in traffic jams on the freeways in LA and the unit shows that I am in a slow area (which I already know...) but it lists no incidents on my route and does not recommend alternates. I am still learning about this feature. Also you need to have the power cable plugged in if you want to get traffic signal (on my device anyway...)

In summary this unit has high-end features at a very competitive price (even more so at the price I paid). However I think I'd rather pay more for a device that has more reliable routing and better POI management (and a power plug on the side, Grrr).Shame because I really want to like this device...

This subwoofer really does perform. I did alot of research and found this sub to be the best all around. It was a replacement for the subwoofer that blew in my B-52 Matrix V-2 P.A. system. When I installed this, I was scepticle about its performance. I hosted a party and really tested the rms of the sub. Subwoofer sounded great at high rms for about 6 hours straight. Cops showed up and said they could hear the bass from all the way down the street. Luckly they did not give any tickets out, just said to turn it down. Also hosted another party about a week later at a different location, and same thing happened. Cops showed up and said they could hear bass down the street. This sub really does the job for what I need it to do. In my opinion, this was a great buy.

Kenwood KCA-BT100 - Car audio Bluetooth adapter
Average Reviews:

Reasonably priced and fantastic sound. I love the way it connects automatically when I start the truck. When I get an incoming call, it answers automatically and mutes the stereo - perfect! Dialing out is awkward (they really want you to stop the truck before dialing). I also have to use my cell phone keypad to "enter 1 for english". The biggest issue is the interface for the cell phone directory. I wish it would just read it dynamically like my Garmin Nuvi 660 does. The KCA-BT100 requires you to "send a business card" for each entry. A lot of key strokes for 90 entries. Other cell phones reportedly can upload the entire directory - but my cell phone provider does not have them. I definitely would buy it again.

I also have this radio and think its great.. very easy to use and looks awesome.. Martins wrote in his review "and all the streets are pre-programmed, any updates come straight from Garmin via satellite, " - thats NOT true. Software updates need to be downloaded from Garmins website and burned to a CD and copied over. Map updates are usually done yearly and must be purchased (for $140) from Garmin (or another authorized re-seller) - they are NOT free and are NOT sent straight from a satellite.

It doesn't change how good this radio is, but I just wanted to make sure no one was basing their purchase on an incorrect statement.

Cobra XRS 9500 11-Band Radar/Laser Detector with DigiView Data Display Review

Cobra XRS 9500 11-Band Radar/Laser Detector with DigiView Data Display
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The features sound cool but would be really impressive if they worked. This detector WAS going to replace my old passport, however, I'm thinking not. The range on it is terrible, I read a review elsewhere stating that the only thing this detector will do is let you know you have a ticket... I should have listened to that review. I've actually tested out over 1,000 miles with my Passport next to this XRS 9500 and my passport does pick up more erroneous readings, however it also picks radar up to a 1 mile before the 9500. The 9500 also goes from 1 bar to 2 bars to full strength right away, unlike the competition. Let's face it, usually at 1 or 2 bars your still deciding if you should brake or not. I would stay away from this detector. The safety alerts showed a train in Wal-Mart (By the way there are no railroad tracks around for 2 miles), a VG1 alert at my house (totally residential area and highly impossible) and other inaccuracies that just don't add up. Good luck in your detector decisions, buckle up and drive safe! (That was safe.. not necessarily slow)

Click Here to see more reviews about: Cobra XRS 9500 11-Band Radar/Laser Detector with DigiView Data Display

Product Description:
Equipped with 11 bands for monitoring radar and laser detection, the Cobra XRS 9500 is an ideal solution for anyone who spends much of his or her time on the highway. The device scans the X, K, and Ka Superwide radar bands--the three standard bands used by most radar guns--while also keeping an eye out for VG2 and Spectre 1 appliances, which officers use to locate drivers with radar detectors. Thanks to this latter technology, the XRS 9500 is virtually invisible on the road. The device also offers a 360-degree LaserEye function, which detects LTI 20-20, Ultra Lyte, ProLaser, and ProLaser III signals coming from any direction. And to top it off, the XRS 9500 comes with both Safety Alert, which scans for emergency vehicles and road hazards so drivers can avoid traffic snarls, and Strobe Alert, which looks for ambulances and fire trucks using traffic-light-controlling strobes. The Safety and Strobe Alert functions let drivers avoid accident scenes and other perilous situations, so the only traffic they'll face is during rush hour.
Many radar detectors sound false alarms when traveling through dense urban areas, which is why the XRS 9500 includes both city and highway modes. The city mode filters out weak X-band signals--often set off by automatic garage door openers or burglar alarms--thus reducing the likelihood of a false reading. The highway mode, meanwhile, operates at full capacity. The XRS 9500 also includes a DigiView text display, which is easy to read and interpret even at a glance.
Additional features include IntelliMute relative speed sensing; Voice Alert, which provides the user with specific band voice annunciation; a digital signal strength meter that measures the proximity of a radar or laser gun; an AutoMute function that instinctively mutes the alert tone for convenience; and a system-ready prompt that notifies the user when the radar detector has completed its self-test. Kenwood DNX5140 6.1-Inch Wide Double-DIN In-Dash Nagivation with USB/iPod Direct Control/DVD Receiver Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I picked the 5140 over the 6140 because I don't need bluetooth, besides that the units are exactly identical. Had Best Buy install the unit, they did a superb job for much less than what some of the local audio shops were quoting me.

Now, onto the unit:

-Boot up time is fast, I'm going good in about 10 seconds. I've heard other units are rather slow to boot up (Pioneer). So far no freezing or locking up except I get some lag when using USB (more later). It has an easy to understand interface but I did have to check out the manual once or twice on specific things. I like the fact you can pick what color you want the interface and physical buttons to light up, I have my radio matching my dash lights.-Navigation is great, and if you ever owned a Garmin unit you know full well how the navigation works. The navigation integrates great into the radio controls. The voices are a little loud and your music will mute for your voice guidance. If you are using your radio controls while navigating a route you will get a green notification bar at the bottom that shows the distance and the next turn you should make. I also like how it shows the speed limit and so far that's been very accurate. Garmin also updates their maps on a regular basis, and you can use the Garmin updates to update this unit. Some other manufacturers of in dash navigation don't update after release. Since I plan on having this unit for a few years that was important to me.

-Works great with Sirius. I have my display setup as "4-line" which gives me three lines of song data plus one line of arrow controls. You can pick and choose where and what song data you want displayed with satellite. I personally picked Artist/Song Title/Channel Name in that order. Sirius also gives you 30 presets (6 per "band" and a maximum of 5 bands). Also there's an option to list all channels and you can see what artist or song is playing on each channel organized by category. Very neat.

-The USB function is seriously lacking, and the reason I gave this unit 4 stars. First off the USB is slow, and the unit seems to lag when using the USB function. Also for some reason you're limited to 255 items per folder so if you have more than 255 songs you must start organizing your music in different subfolders. If you open a video file via USB it takes 30 seconds or so before it starts playing, and the unit will freeze during that time until the video starts.

-Video display is crisp and clear. I've seen complaints about dimming but I don't share those complaints. I set my unit to dim with the GPS. This unit will play Divx/Xvid formatted files but you must change the name of the file from filename.avi to filename.mpg. The US version will not play .avi files, I guess due to piracy concerns. It's a cool feature not found on the spec sheet of the unit.

-I didn't buy the iPod cable because I figured I'd just use a USB drive, but due to the terrible USB interface I'll have to buy an iPod cable. Hooking and iPod to the unit via USB without the cable gives no sound or video but it will let you test the iPod interface. It works beautifully.

I've been very happy with the unit.

Rain-X Weatherbeater Wiper Blade - 28" Review

Rain-X Weatherbeater Wiper Blade - 28'
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm really surprised at the negative reviews on these wipers. I bought two pairs of wipers just over a year ago, expecting I'd have the second pair as backup. I haven't needed the second pair - the first pair are still just like new - they don't squeak, chatter, or smear and are great for visibility. I live in Seattle, so it's not like I never use them either - we've been deluged by rain in the last year!

The only thing I can think is that maybe others are mistreating their wiper blades. Keep your windshield clean, and if the wipers are smearing, just wipe the cleaning edge off with a paper towel from time to time. That's not a problem with the blade, that's a problem with the cleanliness of your windshield and blade. Any wiper blade struggles when it's bogged down with dirt, pollen, and road grime.

I figure eventually I'll use my backup pair, but until then I'm happy.

Motorola MOTONAV TN20 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Text-to-Speech Review

Motorola MOTONAV TN20 3.5 inch Portable GPS Navigator with Text-to-Speech
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It has some pretty decent features for Motorola's entry into the GPS realm dominated by others, Motorola was a little slow dipping it's feet into the GPS market, but the unit somewhat surprised me.Personally, I prefer the smaller 3.5" screens (BUT, only if it has decent 'text to speech' which this unit does have) as I mount it on my windshield and the less windshield real estate used, the better, if this unit or any GPS unit didn't have Text to speech, then obviously the larger 4.3" and larger units are a better choice.

Picked it up on sale @ $99 then put it to the idiot test to see what it could do.

Opened the box, plugged it in and put the manual aside, after all, one cannot do an idiot test if you read the manual. Pressed the on button, setup was very intuitive and simple, then entering in the destination and it got me there no problem, acquiring the satellite was quicker than I was told it would be by the salesman.(But then again, some Radioshack reps may not be the brightest light bulbs out there) The text to speech was pleasant and not annoying on the initial testing. I tried to throw it a curve-ball with a tricky destination, but it got me there 1-2-3

The auto day/night was decent as well. After the idiot test I read the instructions to read about all the features that weren't obvious. The only negative in my humble opinion is that the GPS's plastic bezel, which could be smaller, and the battery life could be better when not using a power cord connected to your auto's 12-volt lighter plug in,but then again Motorola is new to the GPS game, and I'm sure down the road they will make some design changes to improve their products, but for 99 clams, I'd recommend this to a friend.

TomTom EASE Portable GPS Navigation System with 3.5" Touch Screen Review

TomTom EASE Portable GPS Navigation System with 3.5' Touch Screen
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had a garmin 205 in pearl white before I bought the Tom Tom ease in white also. I love the Garmin-esque simplicity with the "plan route" and "browse map" options on the start up menu. IMO i think that this unit is way better than the Garmin for a few reasons.
1. The ability to have a tomtom portal downloaded to your computer that prompts map updates, voices, etc. It reminds me of my nokia pc suite and I love it!
2. It has way more options that the garmin. (a) switching the keyboard to QWERTY which garmin does not have.(b) Celebrity voices downloads to add a little fun (c) Options to change the start up Images(I like this because I hated the butt ugly start up landscape image on the garmin). (d) I think the pixels and icon images are a lot better than the garmin which looks a bit cheap, I think i've said enough about the dreadful graphics on the garmin.
3. The map share/corrections community is awesome.
4. The Tom Tom comes with a USB charger, my ex-garmin didn't.
5. The attached mount and lockon the TOM TOM is priceless. Lord knows how many times my garmin mount got lost or fell off my windshield almost causing me an accident.
*Its like Tom Tom in general is like Mac; Young, modern and hip and The Garmin like microsoft; trying to be cool but still is old and stuffy:D

***In defense of the Garmin 205, perhaps there are more options and better graphics on the higher end models, but I bought that one specifically because I wanted a 3.5" screen GPS. I like my gadgets small and portable .

* In comparison to the garmin 205 and Tom Tom ease, I think the exterior of the garmin looks a lot better because of theshiny pearly finish. The extra shiny coat, makes dirt glide off easily unlike the tom tom where the finish is more matte. The hard plastic is microscopically more gritty, less aesthetically appealing and captures dirt more easily; like nail polish without a top-coat if you catch my drift.
*The garmin has a micro sd slot, tom tom doesn't. Well, to each his own. I don't miss this feature because I never downloaded anything.-In summary of my long-winded review, the Tom Tom ease is a better base model GPS. For the 3.5" screen lovers, looking for a simple, flexible, option-laden, cool, fashion forward GPS with a preference for white, Go for this.

Kicker Comp 07C154 15-Inch 4-Ohm Subwoofer Review

Kicker Comp 07C154 15 inch 4-Ohm Subwoofer
Average Reviews:

Needed to replaced the blown speaker in my Fender 115SA DJ subwoofer on short notice. No pro audio shop around had a 15" woofer in stock, so I gambled and tried a car audio store. Luckily, he had a Kicker C15 in an 8 ohm version. After installing it in the cabinet and powering it up, I noticed a world of difference compared to the paper cone woofer I was used to hearing. The bass felt deeper and sounded more responsive; not as muddy or muffled.

I really like the rubber surround and the poly cone.It makes it moisture resistant which is important when you DJ outside. If this is Kicker's entry-level speaker, I would love to hear what their other stuff is like!

Rigid back bracing completely eliminates distortion. Click to enlarge.
Besides its wicked good looks, the Comp comes with serious muscle, including double stitching on the surround, coil-cooling perimeter venting, and flex-killing ISD (Inverted Structural Dome). The Comp is versatile too, performing in free-air applications as well as in vented or sealed boxes. If all this wasn't enough, the Comp still leaves you with enough cash left over to throw down on a powerful KICKER amplifier to pump all the performance from your sub.
The rigid cone's back bracing completely eliminates distortion, allowing the best bass to be delivered. The larger voice coils, coil wire with intense heat tolerance, highly engineered top plates, and immense power handling still remain, providing the most and best bass from any subwoofer in its class. And here's another first from KICKER--Spiralead tinsel-lead technology for even more strength and durability.
With prices going up on everything else around, the Comp makes perfect sense for any factory upgrade. DuroMax XP10000E 10,000 Watt 16 HP OHV 4-Cycle Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit And Electric Start Review

DuroMax XP10000E 10,000 Watt 16 HP OHV 4-Cycle Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit And Electric Start

I was apprehensive about buying this generator because they don't have a network of service centers... they tell you to take it to any small engine shop near you and contact them about charges under warranty.I called their cust svc and talked with them about the need for third party verification regarding parts needed and they assured me none was required.. I could fix it myself if I wanted.. just call them and tell them what I needed and they'd send it out. That seemed fair enough. It took a little over a week to get mine and it was delivered by USF Holland freight and arrived in pristine condition.. hats off to Holland.I got the liftgate delivery and he backed that big semi right up to my garage door...took his hand truck and set the small skid it was banded to in the center of my garage.. he required no help.. I never touched it until he was gone. These come packed in a cardboard carton and the packaging is well engineered.. thick foam all sides.. top and bottom.. all loose parts.. wheel kit.. etc.. in their own little nook in the foam.It is very heavy but you can get it assembled and off the skid working alone.. I did and I'm 62 yrs old.I pulled the front until it overhung the skid about 10" and assembled the wheel kit then pivoted one side of the rear until it overhung and assembled that strut then blocked the rear strut up with a 4x4 and pulled the skid out of the way and assembled the other strut.I filled it with good synthetic blend oil and put about a gallon of gas in it. I turned the fuel valve on.. it's located a few inches to the right of the choke handle.I pulled the choke handle all the way out and tried to start it with the key... the battery was totally dead.I pulled it out and put it on the charger and stuck the battery outa my lawn tractor in it and tried to start it.It was running almost before I could let go of the key. These Powermax units all have an idle control on them so there's no speed adjustments of any kind possible and none needed. It idles very fast.. all generators do.. they have to to produce current. It ran smooth with no fluctuating noticeable in engine speed.Next I took my voltmeter and checked the output on all the current-carrying poles on all the receptacles.I got a steady 119 volts everywhere. With a target of 120 I considered this to be excellent.. my house current won't hold that. The reason I bought this big unit in the first place was I had hoped it would start and run my big window air conditioner... it is huge.. 30k btu's.I plugged the extension cord I had bought into the L14-30 240v receptacle on the generator and ran it inside the house and plugged up the conversion cord I'd made going to the 6-30 plug on the air conditioner and turned it on. It fired right up with no bogging down and I never noticed the engine on the genny pick up at all.I let it run about a half hour... let the compressor on the air conditioner cycle off and on many times and watched the voltmeter on the genny. It never moved.. engine really never picked up speed either so this generator runs that big air conditioner without any strain on it at all.. I was VERY relieved. The other things I plan to run during an outage won't even approach the surge requirements of that big air conditioner so that issue was put to rest.It turned out that the battery in mine was no good.. wouldn't hold a charge even a half hour.I called MaxTool and told them and true to their word there was no hassle.. they sent me a brand new battery and shipped it FexEx at no charge.I wondered if maybe I had been sent a generator that had been sitting in inventory a year or so but no.. the data tag on it shows a MFG date of May 2007.. I bought it in late August so I got a brand new one.. just had a bad battery.I tried the pull start several times and it always starts on one pull.I go out about once every two weeks and start it and let it run awhile to get oil thru it good.. keep a maintenance trickle charger on it all the time.I can't speak to what it will do over time but outa the box it's everything it was promised to be.. I love it so far.I almost bought a Coleman but those units got horrible reviews.. rampant with quality issues.. leaking gas all over.. horrible vibration issues.. etc.. also they have no idle control and most no electric start and are overpriced terribly.I'm glad I bought this Powermax... couldn't be happier at this point.. good luck to you.
