Interdynamics TX-120 TyphoonMax 120-Volt Heavy Duty Air Compressor Review

Interdynamics TX-120 TyphoonMax 120-Volt Heavy Duty Air Compressor

This was purchased to replace the lighter socket compressor I had for years that was really not very useful to inflate bicycle tires and inflatable toys and balls for my kids.Every time I worried about running down my car battery if the car was not running just to inflate to avoid hand pumps.

Thus, I searched for a compressor I could plug into an electrical socket. This product got good reviews and finding Amazon had the best price I purchased it, but I note that they lowered the price and no longer have the price guarantee offered in the past.

I did compare this compressor with one sold by Sears that is also branded under other names and that compressor did not get good reviews.

Nevertheless, after having this compressor for several months and putting it to use, so far it has not failed and operates nicely. The gauge is fairly accurate as I used it to fill our bicycle tires and then measured the pressure with a gauge.

While some reviewers complained these type compressors are noisy, not even the lighter socket one I have, that this one replaces, is quiet.Any type of compressor, whether it is for airbrushing or power tools is not quiet.

This is a useful tool and useful to have.

Kenwood DNX6140 6.1-Inch Wide Double-DIN In-Dash Nagivation with Built-in Bluetooth USB/iPod Direct Control/DVD Receiver Review

Kenwood DNX6140 6.1 inch Wide Double-DIN In-Dash Nagivation with Built-in Bluetooth USB/iPod Direct Control/DVD Receiver
Average Reviews:

I had this unit profesionally installed in my Porsche Cayman and the custom installation is a very good fit. The navigation system is very easy to use - if you've had a garmin (that is what it is based on), you pretty much do not need to read the manual - it is very intuitive and accurate. I've driven about 2000 miles with it and I like the large bright display - it is easy to change directions and detour on the fly. It does not have voice commands, but the touch screen is easy to use.
I have also used the bluetooth with my Razr phone and have not encountered the problems stated in the earlier review. The microphone is placed near the rearview mirror and only the front speakers come on when I'm talking on the phone - the unit shuts off any music that you might have playing. I use the touchscreen to dial a number and it works well - the folks at the receiving end have no problem hearing me.
There is also an ipod adapter that is in the glove compartment - once hooked up all controls are on the touchscreen - it is easy to use and works well. If one puts in a DVD / CD that takes precedence over the ipod unless you instruct the unit otherwise. I leave the unit to power up when starting the car and it automatically shuts off when the engine is off. I haven't used the XM stations as I do not subscribe to that service but the FM stations pull in fine using the standard antenna that came with the car.
All in all this is a very good unit and I am very happy with it.

Got the Yellow top for my van, thinking they are the best, and would last longer than my OEM did. 2 years. Well here I am 2 years later with a Top of the line battery, and it won't hold a charge. Could have spent 1/2 the money or less, and pobably would still have a pro-rated battery warranty, or even still a viable battery. Time to go back to Sears I guess...Hope others have better luck....

This is a great deal I got my set for $221 and free shipping and I would gladly pay 300+ for the sound I'm getting out of them.I hooked them up to a kole audio 2400 watt amp which is really 1080 rms, with the gain/level at 1/2 it hurts, and will get you pulled over. I have had cheaper systems for years and years but this is less then you would pay for 2 walmart sonys xplods and a box and is at a whole different level of sound and quality. Even if you pay 300+ for them you will be happy. and remember the only difference between 2 ohms and 4 ohms is the way you have the subs wired, so save $40 and buy the cheaper and rewire to the ohms you want not that the 4 ohm ones don't hit like jaw chattering crazy. Oh and your cars mirrors will fall off so be ready to buy some glue for them.

Dorman OE Solutions Exhaust Manifold 674-439 Review

Dorman OE Solutions Exhaust Manifold 674-439
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Received the product in good condition with everything needed for install on my Honda Civic. Had it installed professionally at the Honda dealer. They said it installed with no problems, but warned me that often aftermarket catalytic converters will throw error codes due to not having enough platinum in them. Sure enough, about 7 months after the install I got a P0420 "catalytic converter efficiency below threshold" error code. Called Dorman, and they said they will honor the warranty through the seller. Basically I would need to return this part to amazon.com, and they will send me a new one. Given the high-ish labor costs, and since I have no confidence a new one will be better, most likely I will keep this one. Not happy with the quality.

JVC KW-NX7000 Double Din Navigation with 7" Wide Touch Panel Monitor w/ DVD/CD/USB/SD Media Card & 2.0 Direct Receiver Review

JVC KW-NX7000 Double Din Navigation with 7' Wide Touch Panel Monitor w/ DVD/CD/USB/SD Media Card & 2.0 Direct Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently installed a KW-NX7000 in my Honda Civic.Overall it is a pretty good system but it does not really break any new ground either. This is not my 1st GPS, I have installed a Kenwood DNX5120 in my other vehicle and a factory VW Navi in another.I also have various portables from Garmin, Magellan, TomTom, Dash, etc.I will primarlily make comparisons to the Kenwood, the VW system is not worth discussing!

Interface. One big plus I will give to the KW-NX7000 is the interface. It looks good, is intuitive, and is easy to use. Kenwood has good Navi menus (all Garmin) but the rest of the interface is a mess and often requires you to refer back to the manual. With the JVC the manual is really not needed, the whole system is very intuitive.

The navigation itself works very well.It locks signal quickly and presents routes that usually make sense. The database of POI's seems reasonably complete. You do have options for fastest time / shortest distance in both preferences and on a per trip basis.

I am not especially impressed with how the KW-NX7000 displays maps. They are easy to read but kind of dull, often times you are just seeing lines on a white background.Unfortunately, there is no option to show more or less detail. Thus, unless you are zoomed way in to about 600 feet, you do not even see road names, town names, etc., just lines. The 3D view was even more dissapointing as it shows even less detail unless you are in one of the few major metropolitan areas where 3d renditions are presented.I have yet to see it present anything nearly as interesting as the photo on the box!My 10 year old says that my other units maps look more "modern".Although I tend to think Garmins maps look a bit cartoonish, I still prefer them to the blandness of JVC's.I will give JVC the edge in how they present things like speed limits, lane guidance, and other details when you are doing a routed trip.If you are only displaying the map all you get is the map and the time.

The JVC has a feature that menus appear and buttons light up when you hand gets near the screen. This is a nice feature and sensitivity can be adjusted. You can change the screen colors but not the button light colors as you can on the Kenwood or Pioneer units. No big deal but if every other button on your car is red, these will be blue.

Boo-hiss to JVC for not including RDS on FM.This means that the unit does not display the song, artist, or station information.Kenwood does provide this feature.JVC has it for HD Radio only.

I installed the JVC bluetooth module and this works great with my blackberry.Given the price differential between the Kenwood and the JVC, I do think Bluetooth should be built in as it is on the Pioneers.

I have not yet installed the HD radio module as this requires an antenna splitter (KS-U21) to continue getting traffic. Unfortunately, part KS-U21 is virtually unobtainable at this time.I am also waiting on my ipod interface so will have to provide an update on that later.

Physically the unit looks good. As installed in the Civic it looks very close to a factory install. The removable, flip down, screen is a great feature unique to the JVC.The screen is nice and large, defintely bigger than the DNX 5120.However, keep in mind that in some vehicles, the screen will stick out a bit more form the dash than some other units and may thus look more "aftermarket" than some others.I was originally going to install this in a 2nd Gen MR2 and it just stuck out to far for my tastes. In the Honda it sits in a "pod" so this is not an issue.

Install was no harder or easier than any other 2-Din head unit.It does work with the PAC Steering Wheel interface controller.

I do feel that for the price of this unit it should include some additional "standard" features. If it included either Bluetooth or HD built-in, this could make it stand out from the pack and not require another box to hide under the dash.Heck, if they just included an iPod cable or an AV cable it would be nice.Do lifetime traffic instead of 3 months.Just provide something that makes this more than another "me too" GPS.This unit costs a good bit more than the DNX5120 but it does not feel like I got a lot more.

So, is this a good head unit?Absoultely.I think it does everything well.I guess the rub is that it does no one thing great, it just has not raised the bar in any features other than the removable faceplate. Some of this could be revised in software, but the same can be said for every other manufacturer.

If this unit were the same price as the DNX5120 I would call it a toss up.You would be trading some features for others so it is a matter of what is more important to you.Currently it is a fair bit more expensive. If I were to get another GPS today, and it were between these two, I would likely go with the Kenwood.

fits and sounds perfect as a replacement factory sub in my Chevy 2002 Suburban.Factory sub was a POS.it is a 8" low profile in a sealed box...To make a long story short - it was disconnected while I had a box with tree top ported 12s in there, once we got our Bernese Mountain Dog - Subs had to go and I was left with a crappy factory sub. This one does the trick.Glad I went with a 2-ohm vs 4-ohm.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Kicker CompVT 08CVT82 8 Inch 2-Ohm 200mm SVC Subwoofer

Product Description:
Last year KICKER showed the world that slim and hard-hitting can go together in a true high-performance subwoofer. Now, we've taken it two steps slimmer with the new CompVT 6.5- and 8-inch Subwoofers, giving you even more legit bass options in a smaller space.

Comp performance in a slimmer package. Click to enlarge.
Specialized four-layer voice coil provides the CVT the capabilities to work with large amounts of power. Click to enlarge.
Injection-molded cone with ribbed Santoprene surround. Click to enlarge.
With the same creative inspiration that brought the world the 10- and 12-inch CompVTs in 2007, these subwoofers inherit the same technology running through the CVT family. Ventless, solid-pole design allows it to be mounted directly against the rear wall of a sealed or vented enclosure, permitting the CVT8 to perform with a mounting depth of less than 3-3/8 inches, and the CVT65 with less than 2-13/16 inches! Spring-loaded binding posts are also mounted differently than standard subwoofers to minimize size. And, you can subtract enclosure wall depth from the equation as well with a substitution steel "clearance" adapter plate.
Don't let the smaller sizes suggest this is not a "true" subwoofer! The 8-inch CVT8 handles 200 watts RMS (400w peak) and the 6.5-inch CVT65 handles 150 watts RMS (300w peak). Each woofer's injection-molded cone is shaped to provide maximum excursion from a slender basket, and a specialized four-layer voice coil provides the CVT the capabilities to work with large amounts of power, but in a slimmer package.
KICKER CVT subwoofers utilize many of the same characteristics as other KICKER subwoofers, like Spiralead tinsel-lead technology that allows for better strength, durability, and flexibility. Perimeter venting, high-temp coil wire, Uniplate backplate and pole, double-stitching, and logo trim ring around the steel basket's outer edges are also features the CVT inherits. I ordered this item from Amazon. Once I had it professionally installed I was informed that it was a faulty radio because my Drivers side tweeter wouldn't work with it but would with other tested radios. I informed Amazon and they overnighted another radio to me and once it was installed I was very impressed. Looks great in a car with a double din. Plays DVD flawlessly! Touch screen is very responsive and many options etc!! My speakers are much louder and more clear now with this unit. Would recommend buying from Amazon before going to your audio shop where they would charge you much more!

JVC KW-XG700 Double DIN In-Dash CD Receiver with Front AUX Input and USB Port J-Bus Expandable (Black) Review

JVC KW-XG700 Double DIN In-Dash CD Receiver with Front AUX Input and USB Port J-Bus Expandable
Average Reviews:

I'm fairly happy with this unit's performance. No head unit will have everything you want, but this came close in some areas, nailed it in some areas, and was mediocre in others. I needed a DD unit for my car because the stock unit is DD. I single DIN unit would have looked spartan in the dash.

PRO:
1. Has both USB and AUX in on front panel.

2. Has a clean built in amp at 20wts RMS and a 24 bit DAC converter.

3. Has subwoofer control in panel allowing you to adjust what DBs go to the sub, such as 185, 90, and I think something like 45, which is explained in the manual, and this is read out on the LCD panel as High, Medium, and Low. Both Crutchfield and JVC said the additional Bass, Treble, and Midtone adjustments DO NOT affect the subwoofer out. This means that you can use your stock speakers in your car as midrange and treble and line out the bass to your subwoofer. Or, adjust a smaller amount of bass to your other speakers while not affecting the subwoofer bass output. This is exactly what I wanted--electronic crossovers adjustable in the deck itself.

EDIT May 30th: This is not true. The bass adjustment will increase both the bass in the stock speakers as well as the subwooofer, but the crossover samples down how much bass you get in the stock speakers. I wanted the unit to leave the stock speaker's bass, midrange, and treble separate from the woofer bass adjustment. Still, it does a good job of crossing over the stock speaker and I don't feel this limited the sound of the system too much--except that you don't get enough MID bass in your stock bass speakers for some songs. Not a show stopper at all.

4. BT unit is small and self contained with no power cord. It has a single DIN plug that plugs into the back of the deck, and that is it. My stereo installer said it was "nice and easy" and that it saved me about 20.00 bucks on install.

5. The BT is 99.00 compared to Sony BT devices at 200.00.

6. The deck's lights do dim when I turn on my headlights, just like it should. You can turn this on or off in the deck itself.

7. It has everything that I mentioned plus XM, Sirius, BT with 99.00 adapter, plays .wma 9, .aac, MP3, .wav files from my SD card plugged into a card reader and directly into the front USB panel. I have my entire CD collection in 160bit aac on one 8GB SDHC card at my finger tips. It does not play DVDs with music, but that was what I traded for the front panel USB and AUX--I never insert a disk anymore, thus I rarely need a CD player, much less a DVD player.

8. Allows you to name radio stations. Some other features that are uninteresting to me, but there if you want them.

9. Seems well built and quite when you insert a disk. Buttons feel positive and firm and the knobs feel like quality.

10. Huge knob in the center of the unit for volume and other adjustments after you hit call buttons, such as bass, treble, etc. It's a control knob of sorts, plus volume.

11. Relatively cheap compared to other units that DON'T have both AUX and USB ports on the front, which is rare. I picked it up for 180US plus 99US for the BT adaptor.

12. Professional stereo installer said he didn't like the "fancy" nature of the LCD, but the technical aspects of the deck he said were "nice" and "surprising" and "up there with the best Alpines and Pioneers that we carry."

CON:
1. Not really intuitive operation, although you get used to it and it's very easy, just not laid out as well as it could be. Random, Loudness, and several other buttons should be on the front panel, not in mode option buttons or personal settings. For instance, the Sub woofer DB setting is buried under personal settings, while the sub woofer volume is in another push first button where treble and bass are found (but this isn't too much to be concerned about). Too, I would have liked the option of different colored LCDs on the front panel, instead of 6 different analyzer bumping light options--sort of circus. You can turn the dancing analyzer lights completely off, at least.

2. The LCD read out is far too big giving it a sort of adolescent look. If the LCD were about 75% smaller, it could contain much more information (although it does scroll) and look much more professional.

3. The faceplate is not removable--hope you have insurance. It screams "please steal me."

Edited:

I've owned this head unit for around six months now and I guess there are only a couple things that are really annoying. The unit will sometimes not remember where you left off when using the USB port, skipping many folders or songs. You have to name each folder starting with 000, 001, or 01, 02, 03or the unit can't find some of the songs or folders. Also, you are not suppose to leave the usb reader plugged in when you start the car--which means you are expected to remove it each time. I've never done this and had no problems. So the main thing is that it will sometimes fail to start up where you left off.

Edited 05/27/08:
I've owned this unit for six months now, and I do have two things to report that are VERY unsatisfactory:

1. Bluetooth menu is all but un-navigable.

I can't explain why, it seems random, like pushing buttons in a carnival to get specific menu items up, where sometimes you get the same result with the same series of button pushes and sometimes you don't. Sometimes they come up (following the manual directions) and sometimes they don't. It's VERY frustrating. Last night I needed to pair a new BT phone, and one of the menu items WOULD NOT come up, no matter what--it was the Auto-Answer feature that I wanted to turn on.

After maybe two hours of trying to get this stupid menu item up, I gave up. Tomorrow I'm having the unit uninstalled and sent in for repair. I'm already looking at different units because I don't want to waste my time fiddling with incompetent navigation flaws in this unit.

The first phone I set up after I had the unit installed did go reasonably well, but this time it simply refused to bring up specific menu items. It also kept defaulting to "connect" which means you have to either cycle through the SOURCE button to cancel it, or wait for it to give you an error, then restart the procedure again.

2. Blue Tooth Microphone NOISE!

People are reporting to me that the noise from the BT unit's microphone is horrible, almost to the point they cannot hear me (e.g., "Sounds like you're next to the Los Angeles International Airport!!"). I have the microphone mounted right next to the rear view mirror near the headliner. There is no option for noise canceling either, so you're just stuck with poor BT microphone performance.

Last, the BT navigation from the head unit itself, well, good luck. It's about the same level of futility as trying to get the menu to work correctly to pair and set up BT options, as commented above. You'll have a wreck long before you find the number you want.

Voice activation for calling via your phone passes the commands over well, however.

There is something else that pissed me off too: A few of the options available are not defined, such as BT muting. This menu option--in the main menu, not the BT menu--gives you three option, Muting 1, Muting 2, and Off. You won't find what muting 1&2 do, though, simply because whoever wrote the manual decided you didn't need to know--"Just pick one and STFU!"

I actually would not recommend this unit because of the way it skips around the music on the USB drive after you start and stop your car, plus the horrible menu in the BT section. On the other hand, if you don't need BT options and you don't really care if your music skips to a random folder the next time you jump in to listen, it's a pretty good unit.

To be fair, I haven't tried loading up a CD with AAC or MPs files to see if it skipped around after shutdown and startup. I did have a CD loaded with about twenty songs from two different disks and I did not notice it jumping on startup and shutdown.

I also wanted to comment on something I thought was a negative in my first update. You must number the folders with the prefix 01, 02, 03, or 001, 002 and so on. This is actually a decent condition because then you don't have to play the music folders alphabetically. You can group them however you want using the numbering scheme. But then again, if you really do just want an alphabetical listing w/o having to number the folders, you're out of luck. I use a bulk renaming utility on my home computer to set all of the folders and songs up, so it's fast. Most people though don't have the time to figure out bulk naming software in order to do that, which makes the numbering scheme a one by one act of time consuming frustration.

Well, there you have it. I hope that this helps some. You may want to look at a few newer units coming out with this technology, such as Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine and Clarion--the higher end units, not the Target models for 99.00US

I'll have the installers remove the unit. I'll send it in, get it "repaired" and remount the microphone over the visor this time. And that reminds me!

This is another hit against JVC: The warranty is not a replacement unit, but repair ONLY using, at their discretion, refurbished parts! You don't believe me? Get a copy of their warranty and see it in black and white, or call and ask them. I couldn't believe that. The entire warranty is repair, use of refurbished parts (they mean used parts they scavenged off of other systems), and that's that!

So this means I'm out with a hole in my dash for around two weeks.

Belkin TuneBase FM Transmitter for iPod with Dock Connector (Black) Review

Belkin TuneBase FM Transmitter for iPod with Dock Connector
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Strengths: All-in-one solution for docking, charging, and FM transmission; adaptable to all iPods and vehicles; versatile FM tuning options

Weaknesses: Sound quality issues typical of FM transmitters; no auxiliary audio input or output

Let's face it: using your iPod in your vehicle just isn't as simple as it should be.Unless you're driving a 2006 model year or later vehicle, chances are that your vehicle's stereo head unit doesn't provide any easy way for you to connect your iPod (or any other digital music player, for that matter). That means that you only have three options for listening to your iPod through your vehicle's stereo: direct connection to your head unit via an auxiliary input, a cassette tape adapter, or an FM transmitter. Most automobiles don't offer an auxiliary input jack on the front of their receivers, and connecting your iPod to a rear aux input--if your unit even has one, that is--is a complicated process that involves removing your receiver and (sometimes) part of your dashboard as well.So even though this setup offers the best sound quality, installation can prove difficult...or impossible. On the other hand, cassette tape adapters provide a far simpler and good-sounding method to connect your player, but they only work if your vehicle has a cassette player. So if neither of the above solutions are an option for you, then you have to begin considering either (1) purchasing an aftermarket, iPod-friendly head unit or (2) looking for an FM transmitter, and that's where the Belkin TuneBase FM for iPod comes into the picture.

If you decide to go the FM transmission route, you really can't lose with the TuneBase FM.Not only does it transmit the audio output from your iPod to an FM frequency you select, but it also provides a convenient dock for your iPod that even charges your iPod while it's in use. Many all-in-one solutions such as this are poor performers all around, but the TuneBase FM fulfills all of its duties superbly.

It goes without saying that the most important element of the TuneBase FM's performance is sound quality. After all, it doesn't do much good to dock and charge your iPod in the car if you can't listen to your music. As FM transmitters go, the TuneBase FM does an admirably good job getting audio output from your iPod to your vehicle's stereo, but it is plagued by the same sound quality issues that affect all FM transmitters.I live in an area that has a pretty crowd frequency spectrum; there are only a few frequencies that are relatively free of other transmissions.Despite this, however, the TuneBase FM still manages to transmit a clear audio signal to my receiver most of the time, although static can be a problem from time to time.I commute almost forty miles one way to work everyday, and I rarely have to switch frequencies, which is pretty impressive.Your results may vary depending on how crowded the airwaves are in your region.Compared to my last FM transmitter, a highly-rated iRock! BeamIt model, the TuneBase FM transmits a slightly clearer and more powerful signal. You won't get a much better FM signal from any other FM transmitter.

The TuneBase FM's other features are what really make it stand out from the rest of the crowd. Its docking solution, utilizing a flexible steel "neck" to support the cradle, is much more elegant, flexible, and pleasing to the eye than other solutions that use a series of thick, jointed plastic connectors. This allows you to position your iPod just about any way you please, and it also virtually guarantees that this dock is adjustable to fit just about any vehicle on the road. The dock is secured by inserting the base into a free power or cigarette lighter outlet, which is also how the device receives power for charging the iPod.Included in the box are plastic and rubber outlet adapters to ensure a snug fit in just about any outlet, and this seems to work quite well; even over bumpy roads or terrain, my iPod remains firmly upright in its cradle. It would be nice if the adjustable neck were just a couple inches longer (this unit includes a four-inch neck, the TuneBase FM for iPod nano includes a seven-inch neck), but a longer neck would likely be too flimsy to support heavier iPods such as the 60GB and new 80GB 5G video iPods.

The TuneBase FM automatically pauses and powers down a docked iPod when it the power supply to the device is interrupted, and it powers up the iPod and resumes playback when power is restored. One note about this: there is no on/off switch on the device, so it remains powered as long as the vehicle's power outlet is powered. If your vehicle's power outlets deactivate when you remove the key from the ignition, then this is not an issue. However, if your vehicle (like mine) powers your outlet(s) continually (even when the vehicle is off and the key is removed from the ignition), you need to remember to manually turn off your iPod when exiting your car or risk draining your car's battery.

Tuning to different radio frequencies with the TuneBase is a simple exercise. The device interfaces with the iPod through its dock connector, so it is able to display frequency and present information on the iPod's own display, which is much easier to read than a separate LCD readout.Tuning options are very flexible. In addition to four presets (which, if you sync with the presents on your vehicle's receiver, makes channel-hopping a breeze), the TuneBase FM allows you to to any frequency from 87.9 to 107.9, including broadcast-free even-numbered frequencies such as 88.8, 96.2, etc.

I only have a few minor complaints about the TuneBase FM for iPod.As I mentioned earlier, there is no on/off switch to accommodate vehicles with continually-powered outlets and cigarette lighters.I haven't experienced any difficulties with leaving my TuneBase plugged in for extended periods of time as long as I manually power down or remove my iPod, but it's an unnecessary extra step that I shouldn't have to take. It's also unfortunate that Belkin does not include auxiliary input and output jacks for direct connection to supported receivers or the ability to use the TuneBase for other digital media players and not just iPods. There's even a spot on the cradle specifically for an auxiliary jack; Belkin just decided not to include it with this model. That's really too bad, as I would have been more than willing to pay an extra five dollars or so for the added functionality of an auxiliary jack.

Overall, however, the TuneBase FM for iPod is an excellent product. If you have decided that FM transmission is your only option for in-car iPod connectivity, then this product is definitely worth considering and will perform admirably.

As of Oct 2008 when this was written, it's one of the few remaining USA made tool brands, and the price is right. Hopefully the item title will be corrected by the time you see this- it is a 3/8" drive not 1/2". Can't tell if it's cro-moly. It's labeled "Heat treated alloy steel." If you have a modern jeep, add it to your toolbox. Jeep went crazy for Torx a few years back. A phone call to Lisle confirmed lifetime warranty.

Clarion VX409 6.5-Inch Double-DIN Multimedia Station with Touch-Panel Control Station Review

Clarion VX409 6.5 inch Double-DIN Multimedia Station with Touch-Panel Control Station
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I installed this unit in my 2009 Subaru WRX. I removed it and returned it after 3 days.

The good:

-It has a good amount of power. I ran this to my stock speakers and they sounded much, much better than they did with the factory receiver.
-Good build quality. The physical unit feels well made. Mechanical flip face works smoothly, buttons and volume dial feel solid.
-It's cheap.

The bad:

-iPod integration is terrible. There is no way to easily scroll through artists/albums etc. You have to click an arrow to flip through each individual entry. This is OK if you have a couple albums on a nano, but not OK if you plan to connect an iPod with a large library. Finding an artist beginning with 'N' took close to 100 clicks with my full 120GB iPod classic. And if you want to go from Nelly to Nirvana, you have to start all over from 'A' again.
-Poor screen resolution. Font edges are jagged.
-No dimmer. It has a dimmer connection wire, but it did not work on my unit. The screen was at full brightness at all times, and the manual dimmer control did not work either. At night it was like having a spotlight in my dash.
-Restarts between sources. Every time you change sources, the entire unit restarts. Screen shuts off then on and everything. It doesn't take too long, 3-4 seconds maybe, but it is rather odd and obnoxious. I took the whole thing out to check for a loose connection when it first happened. Called Clarion about it and they said it is normal operation.
-Navigation. The specs list this unit as being compatible with an optional navigation unit. However, the only input for the navigation unit is a component video connection. So if you were to connect navigation, the VX409 would only serve as a monitor, and you would not have touch screen control of anything.

Overall, the actual physical unit could be quite nice. However the software feels like going back to using Windows 95.

I got this hooked up to my Boss 2500 watt amp and it really kicks, it gives the car some pretty good flex even when its not all the way turned up.I dont even get it to a full 600 RMS because it's just that loud.I would definitely buy another, this is a great product by kicker and fairly cheap compared to some of the other subs out there.

This small amplifier fits neatly under my front seat and produces an incredible sound with my infinity speakers and bazooka base tube. Do not believe the hype about it not getting hot, you could fry an egg on it if playing music for a long time.Alpine PDX-4.150 - Amplifier - 4-channel
