The bottom fold out brace bars are adjustable which is good for the iphone since you will want to move them from blocking the speakers. I am very happy with my purchase!
So here is the only negative or flaw in this design for me.Although the Grip-iT mount has a very nice adjustable rotating ball mount that allows you to turn your device from portrait to landscape and "fine tune" the angle, it is a very manual process.Other car mounts like the Kensington mounts have a rotating holder that clicks into pre set angles but is very easily done even while driving.The Grip-iT require that you make your adjustment and then lock it into place by tightening a large finger adjustable "nut" behind your device.This requires 2 hands...one to hold your device in place and the other to tighten the mount. I don't recommend doing this while driving. This flaw would really only apply to devices that can work in landscape and portrait modes.Since I use a GPS app on my iPhone I want to flip the phone to landscape on the fly.This is not possible with this Grip-iT mount.
Over all it satisfies 99% of my requirements! For the price, I can't find a better value!

Some other reviews complain that the display is difficult to read in direct sunlight, but I drive a convertible and have no problems with readability.Depending on the way you mount it, you can get a reflection off of the glossy screen, but that's expected with any LCD.Maybe their real problem was the interior color of their car was too light, making the reflection too bright to see through.The backlight may be too dim to see in daylight, but you don't need one unless it's dark.You can see the color for identifying the type of radar when set to bright.A voice announces the signal, so you don't need to see the display anyway.
The compass display isn't accurate enough to use in a boat, but plenty good for the "one of two directions" choice you face when driving a car.You do have to re-calibrate per instructions when you first mount the detector, or the compass will appear to be stuck.
Be careful when selecting your purchase to get the SE model.Amazon listed the XTR-695 without the SE suffix, and those are the older, less sensitive model.

This new gun is a normal K and Ka band radar gun detectable by most radar detectors made in the past 30 years until it's in POP mode. When the gun is in POP Mode and activated, a brief burst of energy, less than 1/15 of a second, is transmitted and the vehicle's speed is quickly acquired. A detector without POP Mode detection capability cannot respond to this brief transmission. This one can.
Low Profile Alert Periscopes Whistler's Low Profile Alert Periscopes provide an added attention getting visual alert. The two extra LEDs flash on and off when the unit alarms to provide a unique visual alert.
Selectable Total Band Protection This unit provides complete band coverage of all Laser, Radar (X, K, and Ka bands), VG-2, and Safety Radar bands. You can select which bands to leave on or off based on your detection needs.

Stay Alert The Stay Alert feature is designed to test a driver's alertness. Within 30 to 60 seconds after the feature is engaged an alert is sounded; to show alertness, the driver must press the volume, city or the mute button within 3-5 seconds. If a button is pressed within 3-5 seconds, the cycle is repeated. If a button was not pressed within 3-5 seconds the unit alarms at full volume and the display shows an unique visual alert.
Auto Dim Mode The Auto Dim feature automatically switches the illumination of the text display between the bright and dim settings according to varying light conditions so that the text display will always be easy to read.
Quiet/Auto Quiet Modes Pressing QUIET before a signal is detected engages Auto Quiet Mode, which automatically reduces the audio level after the initial warning to a low audio level setting. Pressing QUIET during a radar/laser encounter silences audio alerts, while allowing visual alerts to keep you informed.
Alert Priority When two or more signals are received at the same time, the alert priority is: Laser, VG-2, Speed Radar, Safety Radar.
Example: If X band is alerting, then suddenly a VG-2 signal is detected, the VG-2 warning will override the X band alert.
Vehicle Battery Saver Mode The Vehicle Battery Saver Mode automatically shuts off your detector within 3 hours if you forget to turn it off. The timer is reset if the detector is turned off, unplugged or any button is pressed before the 6 hours have expired. The detector will alert you with an audible and visual warning before it shuts off.
Safety Warning System--SWS This relatively new radar is not for speed detection at all, it is used to keep you informed of highway safety. Transmitters are installed and programmed (for example: in emergency vehicles) to make you aware of possible situations that may require your attention, such as: ambulance vehicles that are moving or stationary, road hazards ahead, road construction delays or detours, etc.

Average Reviews: (More customer reviews)I have a Garmin 255W and wanted a holder that would keep the GPS shaded on long trips while setting on the dash. The weighted Garmin dash mount I have was very stable but provided no shelter from the hot sun. This looked like the answer and I got it. I had concerns that this would muffle the voice coming out of the back of the GPS but it does not diminish the sound at all. On a local trip of five miles today, this Nav-Pac slipped off the dash twice when accelerating from a full stop. My dash is plastic and not very slippery but this holder just does not have enough surface area to keep from slipping off, unlike my Garmin dash mount. I do like this Nav-Pack and I will put a piece of Velcro on the bottom of the Nav-Pack and a piece attached to my dash. This should solve the problem of slipping off the dash but I'm not thrilled about a piece of Velcro stuck to my dash. I suggest this Nav-Pack ONLY if you want protection from the sun on your GPS and also using Velcro, unless you want a GPS falling into your lap... UPDATE: Wife found a silicone potholder at Target. Its thin as a silver dollar, translucent and about 12" square and very flexible. Works great when on dash and Nav-Pak is placed on top of it. No more sliding now...

Average Reviews: (More customer reviews)I bought one of these at Walmart for around $15 when I couldn't find my no-name inverters.This one has worked great, I take it on every plane trip I go on.Normally I use this to power my laptop ($15 for an inverter is better than 50-100 for a laptop-specific DC power adapter, if you can even find one).One time when the battery was low, the inverter kept shutting itself off.It would work for a few seconds, then quit until I unplugged + plugged it back in.My theory is that when the laptop battery was extremely low, the power adapter was drawing more wattage than this little inverter could handle.Other than that one time, I've had no problems.Has a little fan noise, normally not noticeable.Definitely recommended, nicer (better built) than the no-name inverters I've tried.

Average Reviews: (More customer reviews)I had used Escort radar detectors exclusively for 15 years and thought they were the best detectors for the price. Earlier this year, however, I used an Escort 8500 X50 for a lengthy driving trip and found it just barely adequate.
I had a 5K mile driving trip to take a few weeks ago so I took a chance on this unit. I'm so glad I did. What a great product! The performance of this unit BLOWS the Escort 8500 X50 out of the water. I mean blows it right out of the water. I got warnings with this unit WAY before I needed them, whereas I got them just in time with the 8500. Perhaps more importantly, I got virtually no false warnings with this unit whereas I got them ALL THE TIME with the Escort unit. The Escort unit had me braking every 3 miles for what turned out to be nothing almost every time. Again when it counted--when it was real police--the Escort only warned me a split second or two before I would have been nabbed.
I am so seriously impressed with the advance warning range of this unit, the incredibly low false warning ratio, and the bargain price of the unit. It delivers WAY more than the Escort 8500 X50 for half the price! It is one of the most cleat cut comparisons I have ever experienced; no fine line here. I am surprised that Escort gets away with delivering such mediocre results for your detector buying dollar.
I found out about this unit by conducting extensive internet research and I'm happy to say the tests found on the internet were accurate. The only way to step up to a higher level of performance will be to buy the Valentine unit for 4-5 times the price of this unit. If you are like me then you can't afford the Valentine so you are looking for other options. I respectfully argue that this is the best value (performance for price ratio) in all non-Valentine units.

Problems are just how horrible the instructions are. I believe that they needed to do a much better job. The programing for the required Audiovox Car CNP2000UC XM Radio Direct 2 Add-on Car Stereo Receiver with Mini-Tuner is a hassle, but just follow the instructions the other reviewer left below my review on that page and you will get through it. You do need to know how to use a computer a little, but if your installing this yourself, I think you should be able to follow those instructions.
The other thing missing from the instructions is that the yellow and black wires coming out of the required adapter cable need to be hooked up to power and ground (I'm using the adapter cable for an Alpine stereo). Nowhere in either instruction manual does it even mention these wires! I had to do internet searches to make sure that this was the problem when it didn't turn on (since I didn't hook these wires up to anything).
So, if this is the product you NEED, then it does work and you will get your XM if all is done properly. Just don't expect to rely on the instructions provided by Audiovox! They need to fix their manuals before selling the product!

I was rather surprised when I got a retractable cable that also includes the proper charging tip for the PSP. (Not what shown in the photo.) It's an added bonus, as the retractable plays well when you just want to throw this into a bag and take it with you, and it's nice to be able to charge the PSP on the road without bringing the whole stock charger with you. If you have anything else that uses the same size AC plug (my old Dell Axim with the dongle, for instance) you can use it, as well as using the Mini-B end to charge other accessories (most new Motorola phones, for example.) I charge both my TomTom ONE and my Motorola bluetooth headset with this cable. It's multi-use *and* indispensable.
Pros: Retractable, includes PSP charger tip, compact.
Cons: Charges slower than a wall charger (limitation of the USB port...not the design of the cable.)

Average Reviews: (More customer reviews)I ended up getting a total of 6 of these units for all the trucks at my work. Overall they work fairly well. No problems jumping our work trucks. Chevy 1500 work trucks and a couple ford F150's. The light comes in handy. The air compressor does take a while to fill up a tire, and the hose is kinda short,but it does work. Other than that, it works great and has a built in battery tester which is nice to see. I have no problem getting multiple jumps in between charges. It recommends charging them once a month even if you don't use them. 4/5 Stars
